Home improvement projects have been high on everyone’s to-do list now that we are spending more time at home. Being quarantined does not lend well to major renovation projects, so we decided to put together a list of home improvement projects that will cost you less than $200.

Paint

The difference paint can make in a room cannot be overstated. The right paint color can make your room feel bigger, look cleaner, and appear brighter. Painting is the least expensive way to dramatically improve the appearance of any room in your home. Ceilings, molding, and doors can also benefit from a fresh coat of paint.

Paint isn’t only for interiors though. Think about refreshing your shutters, exterior doors, and patio. If you decide to go with a different color and your neighborhood has a HOA, don’t forget to check and see if you need their approval first.

Improve Energy Efficiency

An energy-efficient home is a very marketable asset. Give your local utility company a call. Many provide free energy audits of their customers’ homes.

Switching out lightbulbs and installing automatic light switches is another easy and inexpensive solution to lowering your energy bills.

Landscaping

There are many things you can do to improve curb appeal and increase home value that don’t have to cost a lot of money. Fresh mulch, power washing, and regular maintenance will help, but so will planting a tree! Trees are valuable to homeowners and buyers. The added shade and privacy are greatly appreciated. Smaller trees don’t cost as much but take time to grow, so plant now to enjoy the benefits later!

When choosing plants to plant around your property, choose low-maintenance plants. Purchase native plants that are drought-tolerant; this will save you not only time but money!

Save the Popcorn for Movie Night

Have you checked out your ceiling lately? Notice anything? Nothing dates a house like popcorn ceilings. This is a messy DIY, but it makes a huge impact. There are many tutorials online, or reach out to our director of marketing; she removed it from her first home.

Please note: If you have an older home, have it checked for asbestos before starting this project.

Bathroom Updates

If you are a bit more daring in the DIY department, updating bathroom faucets and light fixtures is another affordable way to make a dramatic impact. Just remember if you plan to list, keep it neutral.
