A change in seasons is a great time to catch up on maintenance around your home, and summer is no exception! These 7 tips will help keep your home in tip-top shape for fall.
Pressure Wash the Driveway
Okay, okay, we get it. Nobody really wants to do this one. But if you are planning on selling your home anytime soon, you should get this one off your to-do list. Pressure washing your driveway will get all of those unsightly oil and dirt stains off.
If you own your own pressure washer, you can buy an attachment that will make this go quickly. Or you can always hire a company to help you out!
Clean the Gutters
If you haven’t done this yet, now is a great time. Gutter cleaning is often overlooked, because out of sight, out of mind, right? With heavy storms more frequent in the summer, it is important to make sure that your gutters are ready to handle them. Gutters protect the roof, foundation, and walls of your home. If it has been more than 6 months since you have checked yours, it’s time!
Clean Your Porches and Patios
After all the pollen has settled down, it’s time to clean off your outdoor spaces! Remove all of the furniture and give it a good scrub, then move onto the floors. This is a great time to inspect these spaces for any screws that may be popping up or loose boards or stones that are wiggling free.

Clean the Dryer Vent
Depending on the size of your family, this is something that may be a once-a-year task or it could be done several times a year. This is not only for safety; if your dryer vent is clogged, you will begin to notice an increase in your energy bill as well as your clothes taking longer to dry. It’s also a fire hazard.
Trim Trees and Shrubs
Your plants will have likely grown quite a bit since the last time you tended to them. Pruning and dead-heading are important ways to ensure that your plants continue to grow strong for weeks and months to come, and it also increases the curb appeal of your home.
Don’t forget the trees! Many trees are sprouting new growth right now. To keep trees from getting too big, make sure you routinely trim them back.

Check Smoke Detectors
There is never a bad time to go through your home and make sure that all smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors are working properly. After all, it’s better than being woken up at 3 A.M. because one has a dead battery.
Why is it always 3 A.M.?
Check Outdoor Lighting
You likely spend far more time outdoors in the evenings in the summertime, so why not use that time to make sure all of your exterior lighting is working? Don’t just stop at the main lights; make sure you are checking your string and pathway lights as well.
Whether or not you are planning to sell your home, keeping up on maintenance will save you time and money from damage in the long run.
